No Statewide License Required

Indiana does not require a statewide hvac technician license. Indiana does NOT issue a statewide HVAC license. All HVAC licensing is at the local level. Indianapolis licenses HVAC contractors through the Board of Heating and Cooling Examiners, requiring 5 years experience, an exam, and a $189 license fee plus $124 business registration. Other municipalities may have different or no requirements. EPA Section 608 certification is required federally for refrigerant handling.
