Plumber License Requirements in New York

No Statewide License Required

New York does not require a statewide plumber license. NYC has the most comprehensive requirements. Westchester County mandates a $10,000 surety bond for plumbing contractors. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and other cities have their own plumber licensing. Many suburban and rural areas regulate plumbing through building permits rather than tradesperson licensing.

NYC requires minimum $1,000,000 general liability insurance per occurrence. Workers' compensation and disability insurance mandatory for all businesses with employees. All Master Plumber businesses must maintain GL, workers' comp, and disability insurance on file with DOB.
