Louisiana Contractor License Reciprocity
Louisiana has reciprocity agreements with 5 states. These agreements may allow you to skip certain trade exams when applying for a license in those states, or when applying for a Louisiana license with credentials from those states.
States That Accept a Louisiana License
Trade exam waiver for comparable classification. Must pass AL Business & Law exam. License must be held 1+ year with no disciplinary actions. 30-day processing.
Reciprocity for contractor licenses; Louisiana contractors must have a valid license in good standing
Trade exam waived if CA license active 5+ years
Trade exam waived under specific conditions; must pass business/finance and code exams
General contractor trade exam waived for licensees with 3+ years active NASCLA-accredited license; must still pass Georgia Business and Law exam
Electrical license reciprocity — equivalent Louisiana electrical licenses accepted.
Exam waiver; must pass NC Business & Law exam
Trade/technical exam waiver for qualifying license holders. Must still pass SC Business Management & Law exam.
Trade exam waiver. Must pass TN Business & Law exam.
Licensure by endorsement available for contractors licensed in LA for 1+ years in good standing
States Whose Licenses Louisiana Accepts
Formal reciprocity agreement. LSLBC will accept exam scores passed in Alabama for equivalent classifications. Must still submit full Louisiana application, meet net worth requirements, and provide insurance. Residential and Building classifications recognized.
Formal reciprocity agreement. All classifications recognized. LSLBC accepts equivalent Arkansas exam scores. Must still meet Louisiana financial, insurance, and application requirements.
Formal reciprocity agreement. All classifications recognized. LSLBC accepts equivalent Mississippi exam scores. Must still meet Louisiana financial, insurance, and application requirements.
